Microsoft Office 1402 Error Fix – How to Fix the 1402 Error on Your PC When Installing Office
The 1402 error will often appear when trying to install the Microsoft Office suite of programs on your PC. This error will show because a certain registry key on your system is either not accessible or unreadable – leading the installer to be unable to install the program you want.
The 1402 office error will often occur with the following message:
- Error 1402. Could not open key: key name. System error 1009.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
This error is basically caused by the way in which the Installer for Office works. When you “install” a program on your PC, it has to place a large number of files & settings on your system to enable Windows to read the various files that it requires. Unfortunately, the 1402 error shows when your installer cannot place a number of these important files on your system. More specifically, it shows when the installer cannot place a certain “registry” setting onto your system.
The 1402 is caused because the ‘registry’ of your PC has some sort of error. The registry is basically a big database which stores all the files, settings & options that Windows requires to run, and is where your PC keeps settings such as your desktop wallpaper and even your most recent emails. Each time you install a program, 100’s of registry settings are being placed into this part of your system, which means that your system needs full access to this database. The problem that causes the 1402 error is the way in which Windows often either deletes or corrupts the registry, making it unable to include any of the files that it needs to when installing Office.
The way to fix the 1402 error is to first retry the installation with a different user profile. The problem is mainly down to the fact that your PC is denying your user profile any access to the registry of your system, leading it to show the 1402 error. Changing profiles on your machine might fix the problem. You should also look to use a ‘registry cleaner’ program to resolve any of the issues that are inside the “registry” database of your PC. The registry is what’s causing the 1402 error to show, meaning that if you use a registry cleaner tool to scan through this part of your system & fix any of the problems inside, you should be able to fix the error for good.
