Parts From So Called Obsolete Computers

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

You may have been the type of guy that thinks a new parts for your personal PC are sacred and you are the one that will start the wear and tear and you will be the one responsible for all the damage they will endure along their many years of usage.

Well you could be wrong. The so called obsolete components from computers can actually be a gold mine for your computer simply because they could be parts you normally could not find from a general store or local market.

First of all you need to analyse your version of the word obsolete.

For some the term obsolete means that the components you are referring to do not longer fit your criteria and do not offer the performance you would like to see from them and for others obsolete means that the component is completely dead and can not function anymore not even a slight.

Now the advantages for so called obsolete parts would be that they will be undoubtedly cheaper than the normal new pieces and if you buy one of these pieces from someone that works in the Internet Technology domain the obsolete piece or component you purchase from him could be better then the component you currently posses.

The obsolete components market is growing more than ever and that is because technology is advancing at a rate never seen before and our pockets can not keep up with this jump in evolution.

You need only to do a bit of research and give a few phone calls and you could be very surprised at the quality of the pieces you can buy for such low prices.

Digital Camera Accessories Cover the Bases

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

With many professional portrait studios opting for them as the shooting weapon of choice and more and more homes going completely electronic, there’s no denying that digital cameras are here to stay. As technology continues to advance and pictures taken on them prove incredible, the amount of digital camera accessories to make shots even better is really on the rise. Where only a few extras used to be available, digital camera fans are finding a whole host of choices these day.

There are two major categories of digital camera accessories on the market – the must haves and the would love to haves. Let’s look at both.

Must Haves

o Extra memory. With digital cameras offering such ease in shooting, those who want to take high-quality pictures find themselves tearing through memory cards rather quickly. These digital camera accessories are generally pretty affordable and are more than easy to carry. Typically the size of postage stamp or just slightly larger, extra memory cards can be used by anyone from the professional shooter to the amateur on vacation.

o Spare batteries. It might be hard to consider these as an “accessory,” but the fact is many who own these cameras do. While most digital camera batteries can last a long time, when they run out in the middle of a vacation or a particularly fun shoot, it can be really irritating. Having a spare set can really come in handy. It’s best to consider rechargeable spares to save on replacement costs down the road.

o Weatherproof camera bag. When it comes to digital camera accessories, this one is a must have for anyone that intends to take their camera outside, ever. Providing protection from bad weather and drops alike, these accessories aren’t very expensive either and they can help store those extra batteries and memory cards, too.

Love To Haves

o Lighting mechanisms. This particular class of digital camera accessory might almost fit into the “must have” list. While most digital cameras take very good pictures, there onboard flashes tend to leave a lot to be desired. There are all kind of lighting mechanisms that are available that can remedy this. Some are designed to work with specific cameras and others are standalones that can assist in any photography setting. These are great for anyone who wants to take spectacular shots to consider.

o Tripods. When it comes to digital camera accessories, this is one any serious shooter might want to consider. These help take away the shake that’s involved in some settings and can really help create spectacular images.

o Extra lenses. Not all cameras will accept these digital camera accessories, but those that do can really benefit from them. Providing a way to really turn a digital into an all-purpose camera, these add ons should be considered by those who can use them.

Why Removing Unused Programs Can Speed Up Your Slow Computer

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

So you have a slow computer and are wondering how to make it faster. Well there are many different areas you can work on to make your computer faster, but removing some programs that you don’t use any more is probably are really good place to start. Its easy, low risk and doesn’t really take much time to do. But exactly why does your computer run slowly now when it use to run faster before? Well it all has to do with your computers operating system being the main “bottle neck”. What happens is that in time your operating system will start to collect junk in many different areas and what you are going to have to do is to manually go in there and remove some of this junk to speed up your computer.

So what are the areas that junk builds up on your computer? Well there simply are to many for me to describe in this one article so instead were going to focus on one area, removing unnecessary programs. When you have programs on your computer that you are not using anymore and they are still installed, they are taking up your hard drive space and they are also running in the background. When these programs are running in the background what happens is that they will use up your computers resources (like your memory) but you are not getting any use out of it, so it’s basically just a waste. When you remove these programs you will free your computer of some of its resources that you can then use.

Its best that you don’t remove any program unless you know for sure what they are and what they do. Only remove a program if you know what it is and what it does. Here is how it’s done:

If you are running Windows XP, click Start, click on Control Panel, click on the Add or Remove Programs and wait a little while for the list to be created (if you have a lot of programs on your computer it might take a bit longer so just be patient). Now all you have to do is to just remove the programs that you don’t need by clicking on the program and selecting Change/Remove and following through with the removal process.

If you are Windows Vista user, click Start, go to Control Panel and make sure that at the top of the window that you have “Classic View” selected. Double click on the Programs and Features button (wait a few seconds for your programs to come up) and just select the programs that you don’t need and select Uninstall to remove them. Remember to only remove programs if you what they are and if you know that you don’t need them.

How Do Data Recovery Techniques Work?

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Data recovery techniques are deployed in situations where data on your hard drive becomes corrupt or inaccessible. There is not just one way to recover data that has been lost due to formatting, malicious programs or accidental deletions. If you are planning to repair the physical damages by yourself, know that you will forfeit all guarantees of manufacturer. Logical damages are caused by corrupt programs or Operating System failure. Physical damage related data loss cases are fewer in number. It is wise to seek help from a reputed data recovery company to repair a physical damage.

Power outage, device failure and computer crash are most common reasons of data loss on your computer. Most common method of data recovery is to check for the consistency of drive’s physical specification and its logical structure. A mismatch is a sure-shot way to lose data temporarily or even permanently. Consistency checking finds out the illogical and inconsistent directory links and lists them for correction. In most cases, corrections are done automatically.

When data on your computer is deleted by pressing a few keys, it becomes inaccessible once you remove it from Recycle Bin. Until you copy new data to your hard drive, deleted items are still intact. Data carving is the technique used to recover data with no information about their location on hard disk. You simply remove the pointers to the item when you delete it. An expert can find the location, size and contents of this item. This technique is very promising but it requires sufficient time and energy from the expert.

Data recovery becomes a tough task when you to work on a running system. A minimal operating system can be used in such cases. Such an operating system is capable of running specific repair packages. Create an exact copy of all data on your hard drive using imaging tools and separate it from the system.

Widgets and Whatnot

Monday, July 25th, 2011

/wijit/

? noun informal a small gadget or mechanical device.

- ORIGIN perhaps an alteration of GADGET.

askoxford.com

Over the past few years, the term “widget” has slipped into the vernacular of us technological civilians. Essentially, a widget is just a very useful gadget, designed to do something interesting. Some are useful, like a clock widget. Some are random, like the “Magic 8 Ball” widget.

Widgets can prove quite useful. They introduce a fun yet practical personal touch that could not be had via a website with a basic template, like Wordpress, Myspace or Facebook.

Some great widgets include the Box.net widget. The box.net widget is an extremely useful widget for file sharing. Another great widget is the “Twidget”. A Twidget is a customizable Twitter widget. It shows the designated amount of your latest Twitter posts or lists. You can embed the widget on your facebook, blog or general website. The Twidget, as well as other fun miscellaneous items -including Twitter icons- can be found in the “goodies” section at the bottom of your Twitter page.

“Why are widgets so popular, anyway?”

Thanks to loving, all-merciful designers, widgets make it easy for you to change up your site without having to learn code. Why unnecessarily pay someone hundreds to thousands of dollars for a designer to sit at a desk and alter your website or widget when there are hundreds, if not thousands of widgets out there for you to explore? It maybe counter-intuitive on the part of web designers, but I suggest you take advantage, while they are still free.

“I’ve seen widgets but I don’t know how to put them on my page”.

After you customize your widget (if necessary), you are asked to copy a code. This is called an “embed code”. Copy the embed code and place it in the desired place one your site. For those with a Wordpress template, you have two options. You can post the code onto a “page” or you can go to the “appearance” section on the left hand side of your dashboard. After clicking “widgets” you will notice that you already have a bunch of preset widgets. If you want to use a non-standard widget, copy the embed code into the “text” widget. Make sure your text widget is placed where you want it to show on your site. If you don’t like the widget, no worries. Just erase the code. Make sure to keep track of when the code begins and ends. The last thing you want to do is erase a vital part of your website or post.

“Where can I get a widget?”

If you Google “useful widgets”, a few million sites come up. I’ve found these two URLs to be useful:

http://mashable.com/2007/09/06/widgets-2/

http://www.widgetbox.com/galleryhome/

Happy widgeting!

WARNING: Widgets can be addictive. If your website is gaudily plastered with dozens of useless widgets and you find yourself up until midnight looking for more, seek help.

Registry cleaners are made to clean and correct any errors in your windows registry. Normally this would require that you have to manually remove unwanted or unused entries from your registry and doing this manually is dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. There are several steps you need to carry out first before doing this to fix your slow computer performance.

#1 Remove any programs you do not need. All you have to do is to click on control panel then click on add and remove programs then simply uninstall the programs that you wish to remove from your system. When you have successfully remove the unwanted programs and files, always remember to empty them from your computers recycle bin.

#2 Make sure that you have an anti-virus program installed in your computer. They will automatically protect your computer from malware and viruses that will slow down and corrupt your computer, including registry entries. Make sure to download their updates.

#3 Remove programs that are set as a default in your system start up. This will make your computer start up faster by stopping programs from loading at start up and consuming valuable memory and will also remove unwanted registry entries.

#4 Defragment your hard drive. This process will free up space in your hard drive and speed up your computers performance. Once you have done this go back and run the free registry scanner you downloaded. This will get rid of all the registry errors that are causing slow computer performance.

When you are seeing an unusual slow down in your computers performance, make sure that your RAM is not all used up or that you do not have registry errors. You can do this quickly and effectively by running these steps above to speed up slow computer performance.

The Technology of Printer Ink

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Thirty years ago, it was unimaginable for the ordinary home consumer to have their very own inkjet printer at home. Inkjet printers back then were clunky and expensive things, thus making them impractical for the typical home consumer to have at home. Things have changed, however, and now, thirty years later, printers are commonplace items that you will find in any home office.

Have you ever wondered how inkjet printers and their respective printer inks work? It is fascinating how the technology of printers and printer inks has evolved over time. Understanding the technology of these machines will definitely help you understand how your printer works, which can help prevent any trouble whenever you use your printer.

Inkjet Printing Processes

There are two types of inkjet printing processes primarily used in inkjet printers today. One is called the thermal inkjet process while the other is referred to as the piezoelectric inkjet process. The thermal inkjet process is highly favored by manufacturers such as Canon and Hewlett-Packard, while the piezoelectric inkjet process is the one predominantly used by Epson.

In the thermal inkjet process, the printer generates heat in order to push the printer ink out of the nozzles on its cartridge. Bubbles are created inside the printer ink cartridge when the printer ink is heated, and these bubbles are forced out of the nozzles using pressure. The bubbles burst and then the ink comes into contact with the printer. The vacuum created by the bursting bubble draws out more ink from the cartridge, which in turn is exposed to more heat to create more bubbles.

In the piezoelectric inkjet process, the pressure that is used to push droplets of printer ink out of the nozzles of the printer cartridge is created by piezo crystals. These piezo crystals contract and expand when exposed to electric charges, and their movement pushes ink out of the ink cartridge nozzles as well as draws out more ink necessary to create the printouts.

Processing the Ink

An printer processes its printer ink using a method called dithering. In dithering, a color pixel is broken up into a series of dots that can form a spectrum of colors. The basic colors that inkjet printers use in this process are cyan, magenta and yellow.

It takes a lot of precision to produce a dot when printing. Quality of any printout is determined largely by the number of dots per inch that the inkjet printer can produce, which is called the printer resolution, as well as by the number of layers of color graduations that a printer can make per dot. Theoretically, the higher the resolution of the printer is and the higher the number of graduations it can create, the better its print quality.

With the use of printer resolution and color graduation, an inkjet printer can create printouts featuring millions of colors, more than what the human eye can recognize. The number of colors that a printer can produce depends on what kind of printer it is. Photo-centric printers are focused on reproducing colors while inkjet printers for everyday document printing emphasize printer resolution more than color graduation.

This is how an inkjet printer and printer ink works basically. When you understand how your machine works, you will be able to use it more properly and prevent any trouble from occurring while you are using your printer.

The Best Lightweight Printers Available Online

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Before we decide which one is the best lightweight printer online, let us first decide which printers online are lightweight. Since we want to know which printers online are lightweight, it will not hurt to consider checking which printers are the smallest printers. After all, weight can be associated with size.

Currently, the smallest printer available online is the PrintStik. There are 4 models available and the lightest is the first model known as the PrintStik 900. Its dimensions are 11″ x 1″ x 2″ (360cc) and it, weighs around 1.5 lbs. Aside from the size and the weight of this printer, let’s see what else it has to offer. In terms of quality, it can print up to 3 pages per minute and at a resolution of 200 x 200 dpi using thermal printing technology. It only uses USB interface unlike its later models, which have the additional Bluetooth connectivity.

Next to this is Brother’s mobile series, specifically the MW120. Its size is comparable to a size of a notebook at dimensions 6.3″ x 3.9″ x 0.7″ (281cc). This printer is actually smaller than the world’s smallest printer is. Weighing 0.69lbs, it is also lighter than the PrintStik. However, it is not able to print on large size papers. The maximum size it can print is an A7 (4.1″ x 2.9″) size. It has a higher resolution compared to PrintStik at 300dpi. This printer also uses thermal printing technology.

Now we go to the PrintBrush, which was developed by PrintDreams. This printer is certainly the smallest and the lightest with the volume of 200cc and a weight of approximately 0.55lbs. Its monochrome resolution is at 600dpi, which is 4 times higher than Brother’s is. It uses Bluetooth and infrared connectivity as well as USB. The printing method for this is different compared to the previous two. Instead of thermal printing, it uses inkjet technology. You print with it by waving it back and forth on a surface, as if you were brushing, hence the name PrintBrush. It is expected to be released in public on the 3rd quarter of 2010.

Unfortunately, light doesn’t always equate to quality. As you can see, we mentioned that all the resolutions they have are far inferior to the ones you would expect to have in a desktop printer. Neither one of them offers a print speed that is good enough and not one of them offers colored printing. So how do we decide which is best?

Now let’s take on another angle. If you wish to know, what the best printer is, which is also lightweight, then look for the best travel printer. Travel printers are already light since they were designed specifically for portability purposes.

The best lightweight printer doesn’t have to be the printer that you can fit in a pocket. The best lightweight printer doesn’t have to be the printer that weighs the least either. The best lightweight printer should be a printer that maintains all the qualities of a good printer and should at least be light. The best lightweight printer should be the best of travel printers.
