Proactive Internet Safety From Malware

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Viruses, Spyware, Trojans, ahh – the wonders of the encompassing term of Malware. Malware has become the dirty word of the Internet. We wonder what our options are everytime we fire up a Web Browser. What next?

The world of Malware changes by the second. New threats are constantly released and become near instantly available for download at a computer near you. Apple Computers, better known as Macs, once immune to the problems plaguing the PC world, now are good neighbors to their once counterparts.

The fact is, Malware affects every platform and usually every person at some point. How can we change this downward cycle? The answer lies in the ancient art of Common Sense. We need to learn a more proactive approach in our use of the Internet, and further, take steps to be proactive in the protection of our computer.

We like to call it proactive patrolling. You call it what you want.

So, now that we have argued over the name of this method – how do we enact it? Give me something tangible I can use from this rant.

Sure! Glad to! Proactive Patrolling is quite effective in keeping you safe.

Here are some items to consider and look for:

1. Chat Rooms

Chat rooms are a dying art as we move further into the world of social media. However, a good number still exist, and have become a playground for Autobots and Spammers to let you know how they are feeling – and while you’re there, maybe a click here! link just to make sure you are listening. No matter how many times it is said, when something says “click here” you don’t have to. Just the fact that they want you to by someone you don’t know and just met should sound the alarm. Be very careful when chatting, and make sure you know the person or place before clicking here or there!

2. Adult Oriented Sites

Guess what the number one area of growth is for the Internet? Yep, you guessed it. Places for those 18+ and older, the adult themed/oriented sites. No wonder the OMG of the Internet is quickly being targeted by those with ill intentions. Think of it like this, if you had a product to sell and you wanted it to reach the masses, wouldn’t you go to a big name, big box department store or website to sell it? Same concept here, in order to reach the masses and spread the attack – the Malware ends up where it can most readily be accessed.

3. Free Game Sites

Guess what the number two area of growth is for the Internet? Yep, how did you know? I figure all we must want to do is play games in some form or another. Same concept as number two here. Go for the masses. If you are going to play games online do it the trusted sources and well established sites like Yahoo, Pogo, or Candystand. Just remember those chat warnings while your there though.

4. Social Media Ads

This is a great thing for businesses trying to grow. But for consumers and users of the countless social apps out there, watch out! With people becoming clever to online fraud and tricks, the producers of such material are also doing the same. They are changing up how they deliver trouble, and ad space on popular sites is becoming an overnight sensation. Be very alert on your next tweet – or for that $1 off coupon!

5. Add Proactive Protection

The newest concept in the staying safe should have been the first one. Proactive protection for computer and networks can help deflect the many threats circling your computer ready to strike like buzzards on a roadside. Software protection is the best and most affordable way to start having some peace of mind that you are safe in your daily travels. Antivirus software is good, but consider it a reactionary solution. It starts once you have already been infected. Use of a good proactive solution helps fill the gaps that current “protection” provides. Proactive software is very new and few companies are offering it, but a little submitting on your favorite search engines should yield some good results. Software like A.M.P. or $afe $earch will help decrease your odds of the headaches from Malware.

Until next time, be proactive in your patrol and stay safe!

Okidata C7500n Color Laser Printer

Overview

In some offices, trying to use smaller printers with networking capability simply makes it impossible to keep up to the volume demands that your organization may place upon the printer. The Okidata C7500n is the type of printer which is made to serve a larger network. It may come at a slightly higher cost, but that is because it is designed to do the job of several different printers all at once for a large network. It can perform as a high speed monochrome printer, or use the Okidata C7500n cartridges to produce brilliant full color work. All this with excellent networking capabilities and compatibilities, and you have a network printer that should make any office happy.

Features and Functionality

When you’re dealing with a printer that is meant to serve an entire office, you have to try and look for models that are going to be cost efficient. Printer costs can quickly get out of hand when you’re dealing with a group that large. That is why this printer is often an excellent choice. The Okidata C7500n cartridges are long lasting (rated at 10,000 pages) and are relatively affordable, helping to keep the entire cost of ownership down. Other consumables are similarly hardy and priced.

Another way that this printer stays affordable is by not piling all of the non essential features into the base model. That way, you are able to pick and choose what you want to pay for in the form of some different options which can be added on to the printer as you go. This includes features such as the duplexer. This is a unit which gives you the ability to automatically print on both sides of any paper that you’re using. Other expansions include expanding the internal memory up to 1GB, and the total paper capacity up to 1690 sheets from the standard 630.

When you’re looking for speed in a large network printer, the Okidata C7500n cartridges won’t disappoint in that regard either. Black and white print jobs are especially fast at 24 pages per minute. However, you shouldn’t be disappointed with the color printing either, since the Okidata C7500n cartridges can still print at 20 pages per minute in color.

Conclusion

Network printers come in a lot of different shapes and sizes, but most people have a few important qualities that they are looking for. The cost of ownership, the speed of print jobs, and the true quality of the print are all major factors in the search for a great printer. The C7500n not only meets these needs, but expands upon them by providing you with the option to customize the unit to your liking. All in all, the Okidata C7500n is a fitting choice for any workgroup desiring quality and cost effective printing.

Fix Windows 7 Blue Screen – How to Repair Windows 7 BSOD

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Probably the worst thing that can happen to a Windows 7 user is to get a BSOD or blue screen of death. This is when your computer suddenly flashes a blue screen and displays some text then either reboots, hangs up or shuts down. You will not get to save any of your work and anything you have been doing goes up in smoke.

In reality, the Windows 7 blue screen is an essential safety measure. It acts as protection against further damage to your computer by halting error-prone software and hardware and restarting it before the issue gets worse. Here are a few quick things you can do to fix your Windows blue screen blues.

? Cool down your computer. BSODs are often due to heating issues inside your computer. For desktops, try investing in a better cooling and fan system. For laptops, a cooling pad will do wonders in reducing the temperature of your system.

? Add some RAM. Some programs need more memory space to run so adding RAM not only gives your computer a much needed boost, it also helps keep the dreaded blue screen at bay. For certain Windows 7 machines, you can also use the system’s ReadyBoost and add memory by just plugging in a USB 2.0 flash drive.

? Fixing the Registry. The registry is essentially your operating system’s index for your PC. One wrong entry in it will cascade into catastrophic failure. There are some readily available registry cleaners on the market and some even have robust scheduling and automated repair features that will help keep your registry clean at all times.

Again, we cannot stress enough that fixing your registry manually is both dangerous and difficult. Any mistake in editing it by yourself can cause some of your programs to stop running or worse, it can permanently render your computer inoperable.

Your best bet is to use a reliable and trusted registry cleaner to do the job for you. Not only will it automatically fix the Windows 7 blue screen, it will also speed up your computer considerably.

The Best Registry Cleaner For Windows Seven

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

You may have heard how registry cleaners can ‘speed up your PC‘ or ’stop errors’, but if you want to get a tool which does this well, you need to know what to look for and what to avoid. If you have Windows 7, you need to be sure that you are able to use the best registry cleaner for your PC, because any ones that are not very effective on this system can actually damage your PC.

You need to be careful when using registry cleaners on Windows 7 because of all the new and advanced features that this system has. Registry programs work to fix a part of Windows called the ‘registry’, which is a very delicate & important part of your computer. Registry tools have the power to do as much damage as they are claimed to fix, especially if you use a low quality cleaner on a new Windows Seven system.

Registry programs all clean through a part of Windows called the ‘registry’. This is a database which stores information and settings about your computer, and is what allows Windows to store such information as your desktop background and your login details. The registry is basically the nerve center for your computer, and is used 100’s of times a day by Windows. The reason why registry cleaners are needed is because this database is constantly getting corrupted and damaged.

Registry tools scan through the registry database and identify any of the settings or files that are damaged, and then fix them. The only problem is that Windows 7 has a lot of new settings and features inside the registry that a lot of poor quality & older registry tools will not recognize. This means that if you use the wrong registry cleaner on Windows 7, it could end up deleting all the files your system needs, ruining your computer.

The best Windows Seven registry tool for this system is one called “Frontline Registry Cleaner”. This is a relatively new cleaner, and has been designed to work well on Windows 7 to remove all the damaged registry settings that are on it, without causing any accidental damage. This tool has been designed by a leading software developer in England, who keeps it updated and highly effective. Each time we’ve used this tool on our test computers, it’s worked very well to fix all the problems they had.

The Biggest Acquisitions in Dell’s History

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

There is no doubt that Dell is one of the biggest names in the computer industry today. Dell as it is right now is a far cry from the part-time business that Michael Dell started out as a college kid right out of his dorm in 1984. In the course of 25 years, his company expanded into a billion-dollar enterprise with operations not just in the United States but in many other countries across the globe.

Over time, Dell has forged partnerships and made mutually beneficial arrangements with other companies in the computer industry. Over the years, it has also bought a number of companies in an effort to broaden its interests.

What are the biggest acquisitions in the history of Dell as a company? Here is a brief list.

1. ConvergeNet Technologies, Inc. ConvergeNet Technologies, Inc. was a private company that specialized in storage networks. Dell bought the company in 1999 as part of its move to expand to storage networks and improve the future sales of its PowerVault product line.

The price paid for ConvergeNet Technologies amounted to Dell’s 6.9 million common stock shares with a total worth of US$340 million. As part of the deal, the president and CEO of ConvergeNet Technologies at the time became the vice president and general manager of the Dell storage system division. This division included people from both ConvergeNet and Dell’s storage networks teams.

2. EqualLogic. As part of its move to expand further to storage networks and related products, Dell acquired EqualLogic in 2007. This was after Dell failed to generate successful work with ConvergeNet Technologies after the latter’s acquisition in 1999. EqualLogic was an IP storage network vendor that sold iSCSI storage appliances, founded in 2001.

Dell bought EqualLogic for US$1.4 billion, an amount that business analysts considered staggering at the time. Despite the hefty price tag, analysts nonetheless lauded Dell for the purchase because of the innovations EqualLogic had introduced in the field of storage networks and virtualization.

3. Perot Systems. Perot Systems, a provider of information technology services and business solutions, is the latest and biggest acquisition that Dell made to date. The deal between Perot Systems and Dell was closed in late September 2009, with an unbelievable US$3.9 billion changing hands. The acquisition of Perot Systems is expected to bring Dell an additional US$8 billion per year.

Dell bought Perot Systems in an effort to diversify its business outside of its core business of personal computer development. Analysts believe that this acquisition is a move on the part of Dell to catch up on flagging market shares. According to Wall Street reports, profits from personal computer development are on the downtrend and computer manufacturers are trying to look at newer IT business models to keep up.

These are just three of the biggest acquisitions made by Dell over the years. Given that Dell remains to be among the most respected and profitable companies in the computer industry, there will likely be other, bigger acquisitions on Dell’s path in the future.
