1612 Error Fix – Steps to Fix the 1612 Error When Installing Microsoft Office in Windows

The 1612 error is caused by a problem with the installer of your system being unable to complete the installation of Microsoft Office (more specifically, when you try and install the SP-1 update to Office XP). This error specifically occurs when you have more than one stand-alone versions of Office installed on your PC, such as Microsoft Office Word XP or Microsoft Office Excel XP. The problem is that since the installer wants to update the entire Office suite, having standalone programs will confuse it, and stop it working.

The 1612 error normally shows in this format:

  • Error 1612. The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

The error basically means that if you’re trying to install a program / piece of software onto your computer, it’s not able to read the actual files it requires to proceed. Although this can happen for a number of reasons, the fact is that the 1612 error almost always occurs when you try and update Office XP to SP-1, and have multiple standalone Office programs installed. If you want to resolve this error, you should first look at ensuring that your Windows Installer program is working correctly, and that your setup of Office is working as well as it should.

The first step to resolving the 1612 error on your PC is to ensure that you use the “Windows Installer Cleanup” tool. This is an in-built Microsoft program which basically allows you to fix any problems that the Windows Installer might have on your system. By using this tool, you will basically fix the various errors that the Windows Installer has inside, allowing it to install the update on your PC. Unfortunately, this only works if the installation location for Office is corrupted – meaning that if you have various individual instances of Office programs installed onto your PC, you will need to proceed onto the next step.

If you try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and find it does not work, then you should look to uninstall the standalone versions of Office on your system, and replace them instead with a single installation. This can be done by clicking on Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and then removing the various installs you have of Word / Excel / Access on your system. After doing that, you should also use a “registry cleaner” tool to fix the various errors that could form on your PC after the uninstall.

Installing “Old Hardware” Drivers on Windows 7

I was stuck with installing drivers on my computer loaded with a newly purchased copy of Windows 7 Ultimate OS. I’m referring to a Pentium 4 processor, Intel 845G 64MB integrated graphics and 512MB DDR desktop. Windows 7 seemed to run well, with the luxurious features of Windows 7 like Aero and Media center turned off. The only bad thing is that Windows 7 is not very friendly with the older stuff. “Many” of the older applications (including drivers) were failing to install on the new OS. After some troubleshooting efforts, I found a simple way to deal with the compatibility issue.

Steps to install old hardware drivers on Windows 7:

  • Install a freeware file compression software 7-Zip (or any other of your choice),
  • Jump to the location where you have the setup/zipped driver file you are willing to install,
  • Right click on the setup file, unzip and extract it to any convenient location,
  • Now you can try updating your drivers by pointing the ‘hardware update wizard’ to the unzipped folder location,
  • Windows should accept the drivers, if it does not, you should encounter this message:

If this program didn’t install correctly, try reinstalling using setting that are compatible with this version of Windows

  • Select “Reinstall with recommend settings” and this should do the job,
  • If it still doesn’t work out, all you can do is wait till a new fix is introduced via windows update or an update through the driver manufacture’s website or just by upgrading your hardware.

The compatibility issue is just for the time being and all the applications that you used on XP will soon work with 7.

000-541 is an examination that is awarded from the vendor “IBM” and it is also known as DB2 9.7 DBA for Linux as well as Windows. Dealing With Computer Port Problems

It’s tough to find the exact reasons of a port turning on or off automatically. Computer port problems can lead to printing process failure, flawed network connection and access to data on memory sticks attached to your computer. It’s very irritating at times when you are unable to access internet or even print a page. Most of these problems are caused by mutual conflicts of an installed program or operating system updates with an additional software installation on your computer. You will have to update the drivers of problematic port:

For Vista: Click on My Computer and right click on C drive. Select ‘Properties’ option from the menu after right clicking. Now you need to click on the ‘Hardware’ tab in Properties window. List of ports will be displayed on screen. You can check the status of a port concerned with a specific device by double clicking on it. If the message ‘device is working properly’ is displayed, move on to the next one. A problematic port will display the message in device status. Click on ‘Driver’ tab, followed by ‘Update Driver.’ Click on ‘Ok’ button to confirm the changes. Check the device status to see if concerned port is working. Repeat the steps mentioned above if the problem persists.

For XP: Open the properties window of C drive by selecting ‘Properties’ option from right click menu. Press ‘Device Manager’ button followed by ‘Universal Serial Bus Controller.’ Find out the port that your computer is having trouble with. Look for ‘PCI’ or ‘Bridge’ in front of a port to identify them quickly. Update this device from Properties window of the port that opens up by clicking on ‘Properties’ option of right click menu. Restart your computer now. If the problem continues even after restarting your computer, repeat all the steps once again.

There are many different types of malicious files and software that are written for the Windows operating system. Most of the time people think of these as viruses and spyware. The Dell 1110 printer is an entry-level laser machine introduced at around $100. It is about the size of large toaster, which makes it perfect for small houses or apartments. In order to use it, you have to unfold its paper tray. This printer is susceptible to dust because it has no cover. If you fold the paper tray back, you would need to store the paper somewhere else.

The two lights indicate power and problems, like paper jams. It has a single button that can be used to cancel any ongoing printing job. The machine can only be connected through USB. People that use a laptop or other portables will find this difficult because their gadgets only have a limited number of USB ports. They would need to remove one of their devices in order to use the printer.

The Dell 1110 printer was able to print 17 pages in a minute, which is good considering its price. Although, it does lack the automatic duplex feature that most of us take advantage of. Grayscale documents that contain some graphics can be printed around 5 pages a minute. The machine is also able to get a maximum resolution of 600 dpi.

It has a monthly duty cycle of 8,000 pages, which is very high for a laser printer that cost less $100. It also has a paper tray that can hold 150 sheets. The 1100 printer is even able to print on paper as big as 8.5 x 14 inches. It also accepts a wide array of envelopes.

The bundle includes a 1000 page yield cartridge, but it lacks a USB cable. You would need to order it separately for $35. It does have any Ethernet port, which means only one computer can use it at a given period.

The 150 MHz processor and the 2MB RAM are two of the things that make this printer slow. Unfortunately, the RAM cannot be upgraded. This might be a problem for people who wants to use this device for printing graphics.

Dell’s Toner Management application can monitor and alert you if the toner needs to be replenished. The utility CD even includes additional software that can monitor the printer’s status thoroughly.

Sad to say, the Dell 1110 printer does not support Linux or Mac operating systems. You won’t even find them in the manufacturer’s website. Only Microsoft Windows 2000, ME, XP, and Vista is supported by the utility CD. In addition, if you are using Windows 7, you will need to download the software from the internet.

The Dell 1110 printer is an affordable printer, which offers basic printing features. Printing cost is also something you might reconsider like the costs for replacement toners. The average print costs around 3.3 cents, which is a bit expensive for a laser printer. It is still cheaper than most inkjet printers are, but it device lacks some of the features that we look forward to.

Excel – How to Fix Disappearing Zeros

Have you ever typed in a number into a cell in Excel, only to have it delete the Zeros at the beginning of your number? In this article, we show you a simple way of getting the “disappearing zeros” back into the cell.

I hear this question a lot – “In Excel, when I type in a number that has Zeros at the beginning (like a Zip Code), the Zeros disappear – how can I get them back?”

First, you need to realize that Excel sets a format for every cell. The default format depends on the information you type, as Excel tries to read your mind. Computers are not always good mind readers.

For example: When you type text in a cell, Excel sets the format of that cell to “text”. When you type a number, it sets the format of that cell to a number. So, when you type in a Zip Code of “00123″, Excel tells you that there are no Zeros needed and places the number “123″ in the cell.

A quick fix for this is to Right-Click the cell and choose “Format Cells.” In the Format Dialog Box, choose “Custom” and in the “Type” field, type the number of digits for your numbering. So, in the Example above, you would type “00000″ as Zip Codes contain five digits.

Once you click “OK”, your Disappearing Zeros will Reappear!

NOTE: You may highlight a group of cells and then Right-click and follow the above steps.

If you have a group of cells that do not contain a specific number of digits, then you will need to use a macro.
