How to stop the occurring of runtime error 339?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Runtime errors are very common computer problems that lots of PC users have encountered. Usually, they happen because the lost of  some file or other that is missing or invalid. Here, we will discuss some solution on how to prevent and fix runtime error 339.

Ocx files are active X files. You probably see this term used a lot in reference to information being blocked from your computer. This is because active X doesn’t only write to your computer; it also receives information from you. While this may seem devious, most often it is not. In some programs, active X is what allows you to scroll your scrollbar.

Browsing the Library

Msomct is a library file that makes Windows able to communicate with Microsoft office. So, when a 339 error occurs, it is an error that happens while loading or using Microsoft office. If an msomct.ocx is missing, it is missing because it was not downloaded properly when the operating system was installed. This would be a very unusual circumstance.

Actually, on any newer operating system the file missing would be msomct2.ocx since this is the later version of the file. Yes, re-installing the operating system would fix the problem. However, this would be like changing the engine in your car if one of your sparkplug wires went bad. You don’t need a whole operating system; you just need one library file!

Where did that File Go?

In reality, you probably don’t even need a library file. It is much more likely registry corruption or files that are missing in the registry are causing the operating system to be unable to find the msomct.ocx. The reason this is so much more likely an occurrence is because registry files can be deleted for any of several reasons. Registry files that become missing are an everyday occurrence. On the other hand, msomct files don’t get deleted very easily.

When registry files are deleted, they make it impossible for the OS to find programs; even huge programs they are looking for. So, instead of re-installing your operating system in order to re-install msomct.oxc file, it is much more pragmatic to clean the registry with a registry cleaner.

Cleaning the registry not only cleans registry corruption, it also re-installs missing registry files. So, normally, this is the best way to attack any runtime error.

The Wrong Program Altogether

Another possible way a computer could saddle you with a runtime error is if an incompatible program was installed. In other words if a program not ready for Windows Vista was installed on Windows Vista, a runtime error would occur when you tried to run the program.

This is another thing that doesn’t happen very often, as most times the operating system’s installer program will recognize when an incompatible program is being installed and it will refuse to finish the job.

The bottom line is the newer Windows operating system’s registries corrupt very easily. So having a registry cleaner installed on your PC can cure and prevent many different errors, not only runtime errors. Also, registry corruption is known to make computers slow. So, this is another reason to make use of a registry cleaner.

To prevent and fix runtime error 339, it is recommended that you should run a registry cleaner on regular basic.

How to Boot Windows into Safe Mode?

Monday, June 21st, 2010

With the Windows operating system, you have the option to boot or start your system in a computer repair mode so that you can troubleshoot and make repairs by loading the minimum drivers for your current configuration. This allows you to correct common system boot problems and easily remove a Virus, a Trojan, worm, or Malware since most do not start well in safe mode.

After booting your computer, you will notice that your screen appearance will be very basic as Windows only loads the standard VGA driver. The loaded drivers for your computer devices will be: your computer mouse, a standard keyboard driver, and the standard VGA driver. This will allow the Windows system to operate in a limited environment so that you can repair the damaged portion of your operating system.

Safe mode is accessed from the advanced boot options menu which we will discuss how to access after we review the different boot options that pertain to the scope of this article. In Windows XP, there is safe mode, with networking, and with command prompt. Each of these options has different uses for troubleshooting and repairing your computer system. The two most commonly used options from the advanced boot options menu are the first option and with networking.

The advanced menu option, with network support loads the normal drivers for this diagnostic startup and includes basic network drivers. This will allow you to connect to other resources on your local network or access the Internet. The last option which is with command prompt is used when your system will not start so that you may access system files and the registry. This mode will allow you to use command line switches to repair your system.

There are two methods for booting into safe mode. The first method is the F8 method. After you have started or restarted your computer system it will automatically run a quick test of your system and begin to run Windows. On most systems, after the test begins you will see your hardware information listed while the test is running. Once this process is completed, the screen will change. To start in safe mode immediately after this test is completed you will want to gently and repeatedly tap the F8 key and your system will list the advanced boot options menu where you can choose the option of your choice.

The second method can be started while Windows is running normally by using the system configuration utility. This may seem easier for some as you don’t have to monitor the boot up process for the correct timing to launch the advanced boot options menu. You simply press the start button on your desktop and select the Run command. Once the dialog box is open for the Run command simply type “msconfig” and click the OK button. Once the system configuration utility is running select the “boot.ini” tab and select the check box labeled “/SAFEBOOT” and press the OK button. Once the OK button has been pressed, you will be given a pop up box that will give you the option to restart your system. Press the restart button and your system will automatically boot into your chosen mode. After you have finished your repair session you will want uncheck the box labeled “/SAFEBOOT” discussed earlier by following the same procedure above to access the system configuration utility so that your system will reboot normally.

Windows Registry Repair – How to Carry Out a Registry Repair On XP

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

The most often overlooked solution to most performance problems with Windows XP is to implement some form of registry repair. XP, Vista, ME, 2000 – regardless of the flavor of Windows that you are running, these all are intricately interdependent on the smooth function, speedy access, and accuracy of data when reading from or writing to the Windows registry.

Unfortunately, over time the Windows registry can become very large, as more and more data is being written to it. As more data is written to it, it can become extremely bloated and unoptimized. In fact, referential integrity errors can creep up into the registry as well, due to presence of obsolete data.

When you perform registry repair, XP and all other Windows versions, will exhibit a significant performance boost, almost instantly. No reboot is even required.

So if your computer is suffering from extremely slow response, your applications are crashing, you are being plagued with pop-ups and spyware, or your PC takes seemingly forever to boot up and shut down, then repairing the Windows registry is almost always a sure-fire cure.

The way it works is that your registry repair utility will scan the registry for errors and will even look for ways to optimize and compact it. The process takes a few minutes. The end result is that your registry is much leaner and should no longer be the bottleneck in your system’s performance woes.

Unfortunately when it comes to registry repair, XP and the other Windows systems don’t come with their own built-in utility. Fortunately, these are available for download off the Internet.
